Hello and thank you for your free service.
I have no niche to look for right now. I'm selling out of my stuff out of my basement. That's no niche. Any help on sellers like me?
Thanks so much.
Jessica.
Instead of battling the big boys it's much easier for new sellers to find an untapped or underdeveloped niche.
This lesson applies almost across the board unless you are a big boy, with lots of cash to put up in order to compete. For the sake of the masses, let's assume you're not. So, how can you identify a niche with potential.
When doing general web-marketing, one webmasterworld post that I found particularly helpful was called finding good affiliate niches. If you use those same tactics it's very likely that you can identify a niche with great profit potential.
When you have a product in mind you will need to then figure out where to market it on eBay and also how to market it correctly to your target buyer.
Start by figuring out what interests relate to your product. Those might include:
Now find the eBay categories that are relevant to those activities or interests and create a list of them.
Now, your next move should be to create a profile of who your customers are likely to be. Try to determine their income, their needs and wants, their habits, and likely times that they browse the Internet.
These two things are among your most valuable assets. Stay tuned for the next Tip series which will discuss how to create great sales copy and how to time your auctions.
